Choose your first automation without buying the wrong tool
A small test beats a long feature list. Define the input, output and exception before choosing a platform.
Start with a repeated task
Choose something you can describe in one sentence: when a form arrives, add a row to a tracker and notify the responsible person. Write down the current steps and count how often the task happens. Avoid starting with a process that changes every week.
Compare on your own example
Create ten fictional records, including a duplicate, an empty field and a deliberately invalid address. Try the same workflow in each candidate tool. Check whether you can see what failed and safely retry it. A polished demonstration is not proof that your exception cases work.
Count the full cost
Include the subscription, usage charges, setup time and monthly maintenance. Time saved is only valuable if someone can use it elsewhere. A workflow taking ten minutes per week may not justify a complex system. Keep consequential decisions with a person.
A useful next step
Use the work-cost calculator, then compare tools against the exact applications you need. Do not pay until your test handles errors predictably.
